I received the Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-55 VR lens (used) yesterday, my camera was bought used and only came with the 55-200 lens. I am having issues with autofocus but only when trying to use the left or right focus area. The center focus area works just fine, it will focus and take great photos. Let us know. Buy Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens featuring F-Mount Lens/DX Format, 27-82.5mm (35mm Equivalent), Aperture Range: f/3.5 to f/38, Two Aspherical Elements, Super Integrated Coating, Pulse Stepping Motor AF System, VR Image Stabilization, Access Lens Settings in Camera Menu, Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm. Review Nikon null. If you can't get a focus confirmation when focusing manually and or don't get aperture confirmation when setting aperture then the chip in the lens may have failed. One thing you can try is to mount the lens, on camera body switch from AF to Manual then back again. I had one lens not focus once and after doing that the lens started working again. I have a nikon d40 plus standard 18-55mm lens about 2 years 6 months old.The lens has been playing up and today it decided to pack up,it will not focus and can not hear the motor working, put my 55 AF-P lenses do not work with D70. AF-P lenses have built-in motor but the D70 body lacks the electronics needed to operate this type of lenses. That's what I s posted above. It doesn't exhplain why it won't focus manually though. "It's good to be . . . . . . . . . Me!" I know they don't af on old bodies, i tested if they manual focused on old
Set the lens and camera to manual focusing. First, move the focus-method switch on the lens to the manual position. The setting is usually marked M or MF. Next, you need to set the camera to manual focusing by setting the Focus mode to MF. (Get the job done via the Information display control strip.)
Although there are several variations of Nikon 18-55mm kit lenses, most if not all of them have an AF/MF switch on the lens as well. Have you checked the switch on the lens to see if it has been moved? If the camera menu has AF turned off but the lens switch is set to AF you may not be able to move the focus ring on the lens.
1. Check Autofocus mode. Make sure both the lens and the camera switches are set to Autofocus. On the camera, the switch must be set to AF (Autofocus) and not M. M is for manual. Make sure the same is also true for the lens. If the lens doesn’t have an AF option, set it to M/A. 2. Unlock the back dial
I've also never taken off this lens for the 6 years I've had the camera. Recently, I got a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S lens. After I took off the original 18-55mm lens to attach this new 50mm, the Autofocus stopped working. I checked all of the focusing switches (both the one on the body and the lens) and all are in the correct positions (AF and M/A). 18-55 mm lens problem on D5200The focusing system is jammed when focusing on very dark subject or while lens cap mounted. The only way to unlock it is to swit In this video you can learn how to repair Nikon 18-55mm Lens Focus Problem Change flexThanks for watching this video.~Shivam Camera Care from "Harmesh Suhal
Sidenote: why not use a kit Nikkor 18-55mm DX, it has same lame f/3.5-5.6 but adds VR and longer tele (~70mm equivalent for nice portraits) for less money. Also I believe there is no 50mm DX lens in existence. I personally played with D3100/18-55VR couple of weeks ago and I should say it is a terrific combo.
Yes, you should be concerned if you are a professional photographer. Here are some quick troubleshooting methods to fix Nikon Autofocus issues. Follow these steps, in this order: #1 Check whether the lens is clean. Remove the lens. Examine the front and rear lens aspects for dirt and dust. Check also if there is any damage and filters on the lens.
Good riddance. Nikon's 18-55mm P is extraordinary in that unlike every other 18-55mm kit lens, its new stepper autofocus motor lets it focus essentially instantly, even in near total darkness, even on the cheapest D3300 camera. It focuses so close that you won't need a macro lens.
